Research Funding, Grants and Awards in Women's Health

Did you know - Women are three to four times more likely than men to suffer from an autoimmune disease such as multiple sclerosis?

There are striking differences between how women and men experience certain diseases. SWHR works to increase public and private funding to promote such research, which has important implications for both women and men in terms of clinical practice, disease prevention and manifestation and medical education. Learn more about science and research at SWHR.

The following initiatives are dedicated to advancing research in women's health:

  • Society for Women's Health Research Medtronic Prize for Scientific Contributions to Women's Health  - encourages women scientists and engineers to work on issues uniquely related to women's health, rewarding those women who have devoted a significant part of their careers to this area. The prize honors commitment to the area of sex differences and work to pass this commitment to collaborators and students as both a role model and mentor. The prize is given to an outstanding mid-career scientist or engineer whose work has led or will lead directly to the improvement of women's health.
  • The SWHR Isis Fund for Sex-Based Biology Research - promotes the scientific exploration of diseases and conditions that uniquely affect women.
  • RAISE Project - a national award clearinghouse dedicated to recognizing the achievements of women.
