2009 Annual Gala Dinner
On Monday, April 20th, 2009 SWHR hosted more than 550 guests at its annual Gala dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Representatives from NIH, FDA, HHS, CDC, Hill staff, health advocacy and patient groups, and good friends and supporters from the health industry along with special guests Dr. Margaret Hamburg, Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, and Dr. Carolyn Clancy were in attendance.
The theme for this year’s Gala was "Knowledge Is Power," celebrating research on sex differences and the knowledge it has
provided to improve women's health. View Gala invitation.
The money raised at the event directly supports SWHR's 2009 programs as well as ongoing public education and advocacy activities. Highlights of the evening included a keynote speech by Dr. Dora Hughes, Counselor for Public Health and Science in the Office of the Secretary at the Department of Health & Human Services and awarding of the 4th Annual Society for Women's Health Research Medtronic Prize for Scientific Contributions to Women's Health. An interactive game, What's Your Health IQ?, moderated by Wolf Blitzer and Gloria Borger from CNN completed the program with everyone laughing as they exited the ballroom for the dessert buffet.
